Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders are a group of mental disorders characterised by significant feelings of anxiety and fear. Anxiety is a worry about future events, and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a fast heart rate and shakiness. These impact on our ability to flourish in our daily lives.

Affective Disorders

Mood disorders fall into the basic groups of elevated mood, such as mania or hypomania; depressed mood, of which the best-known and most researched is major depressive disorder (MDD) (commonly called clinical depression, unipolar depression, or major depression).

Developmental Disorders

These disorders comprise of developmental language disorder, learning disorders, motor disorders and autism spectrum disorders.

A somatic symptom disorder, formerly known as a somatoform disorder is any mental disorder that manifests as physical symptoms that suggest illness or injury, but cannot be explained fully by a general medical condition or by the direct effect of a substance, and are not attributable to another mental disorder (e.g., panic disorder).

Eating Disorders

An eating disorder is a mental disorder defined by abnormal eating habits that negatively affect a person’s physical or mental health. They include binge eating disorder, anorexia nervosa where people eat very little and thus have a low body weight, bulimia nervosa where people eat a lot, then purge the food and other eating disorders.

Device Addiction Disorders

We do not deal with substance abuse but rather problematic, compulsive use of online games, social media and devices that results in significant impairment in an individual’s functioning and coping capacity. This impacts life in various domains over a prolonged period of time. We help client`s build skills to sit with discomfort to widen their window of tolerance.

Our Approach

I believe that therapy & counselling can help people find ways to integrate the various parts of ourselves that are rejected or unresolved and process experiences which impact on our psychological health and emotional or physical wellbeing. Therapy can also help us to take proactive steps towards living a more authentic, meaningful and connected life, helping to challenge the status quo and find courage to try something different. Psychology offers a possibility to discuss and sound out solutions to existing problems and to strengthen personal relationships, which positively impacts all areas of life.

Assisting individuals, couples, parents and families I use an eclectic mix of evidence-based approaches from counselling psychology, family therapy and expressive therapy modalities. People only seriously consider change when they feel accepted for exactly who they are.
The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
